Thermogeist’s Solar Concentrator is made up of an array of many small, flat reflectors that direct solar radiation into an absorption tube, creating a very high temperature in the tube walls.

Air from the Thermal Tower is passed through the absorption tube where it is heated and sent back to the Thermal Tower to heat the ceramic tubes.

A unique feature of the Solar Collector is its exceptionally simple mechanical system for ensuring that the orientation of reflectors responds to the changing position of the sun. This feature is without precedent.

A set of vertical-axis Wind Wheels harvests wind energy. Each Wind Wheel consists of a rotor located concentrically inside a set of stator vanes. The stator vanes direct wind from any direction to turn the rotor. This, in turn, rotates the main drive shaft, which provides mechanical energy and electricity, the latter via an alternator.

Excess wind energy is converted via a compressor into high-grade heat for storage. If the available wind power cannot meet demand from the drive shaft, a heat engine makes up the shortfall.

Vertical-axis Wind Wheels are not unique to Thermogeist, but the design has been optimised to maximise efficiency. And unlike propeller turbines, the Wind Wheel is no threat to birds, bats and insects.

If the heat content of the Thermal Tower nears depletion during prolonged periods of low wind and solar energy, a small furnace can be commissioned. This furnace is capable of firing gaseous, liquid or solid fuels, and sends flue gas through the Thermal Tower to reheat the ceramic tube walls, effectively ‘recharging’ the Tower.
